The latest addition to the electric range is the Ioniq9, which is aimed at the most profitable segment of the full-size Suv and has with us for review. We will test the performance of the Hyundai Ioniq9 and evaluate how it fits the needs of customers of full-size SUVs. The model comes with AWD, generous 422 hp and 700nm output and a 2-seat configuration - fits 6 or 7 seat passengers. The test car had six seats and a Caligraphy trim package that is the best available and is packed with everything the Ioniq9 can offer. The only thing missing there is the side mirror of the camera. In most markets, the Ioniq9 starts just under €70,000 and is even a completely fooled model, such as staying under €90,000.
Therefore, Hyundai Ioniq9 is one of the most powerful value proposition in its segment. But the key question is how well it is dealt with against an increasingly capable competitor's field. Active air flaps integrated into the lower bumper open when no additional cooling is required for batteries or climate control systems and close when not needed to improve efficiency. A huge percentage of the front end crushed a significant number of bugs during a highway drive, which can be seen in photos taken after just a few kilometers on the highway profile is undoubtedly the most characteristic part of the Hyundai Ioniq9.
Our test model comes with 21" wheels - the largest and least efficient available. They have 285/45 tires - such a width doesn't even help with rolling resistance, but it's fat enough to allow for a great ride - we'll get back to it in a little bit. The rear design of the Hyundai Ioniq9 is very impressive. The pixelated LED light bar surrounds the entire tailgate, creating a distinctive halo effect. It also incorporates most major rear lighting features, including a third brake light, resulting in a cohesive and highly recognizable light signature. It is a new interpretation of the increasingly common full width light bar trend that helps the ioniq9 stand out while maintaining its contemporary appearance.
Even the inverting lights, which are abnormally placed just below the license plate, adopt the same pixel-themed design. One of the non-intuitive elements is the start and stop buttons integrated into the gear selector. The position behind the steering wheel is somewhat awkward to access first and requires a familiar period. The driver's display is also well known from other Hyundai models. Many rivals offer much greater freedom and layout choices, but it works well and provides some personalization. The central infotainment display is a seamless continuation of the driver's instrument panel, just like some other elements in the cabin towards the driver, it is borrowed directly from other Hyundai models and runs the same software.
In today's market, that trade-off could be a sensible compromise for many buyers. One thing that many cars generally do not offer is the mirror of the rear view camera. It transforms a regular mirror into a display with the press of a button. The image is zoomed so you still won't see everything going on behind the Ioniq9, but you're carrying a lot of people and big items and the rear passenger side dashboard is decorated with faux-forged carbon and looks somewhat awkward in an SUV of this size. There are 2 control panels stacked in the center of the dashboard, so you can control various functions with physical buttons.

Thankfully, Hyundai continues to provide dedicated controls for frequently used features, rather than filling everything in the touchscreen menu. It is a decision that gives preference to ease of use and something worthy of praise. Under these controls there is a large storage area that houses 3 USB-C ports and a 12-volt outlet, ensuring ample charging options for your device during long journeys. In the same area there is also a dedicated compartment that allows you to sterilize small personal items, such as glasses. This is an unusual and advanced feature that adds another layer of everyday convenience. The center console itself can slide along the floor of the Hyundai Ioniq9, allowing the occupants to adjust the available space between the front and rear rows.
If desired, you can even make it easier to move between columns. At the top of the console, a rotary drive mode selector surrounded by shortcut buttons for camera view, parking assistance, auto hold and hill descent control, 2 large cup holders and a wireless charging pad complete the setup. An amazing feature that seems to be increasingly moving away from modern cars is the opening panoramic sunroof, which is absolutely huge in the case of the Ioniq9. This solution is much better and more practical than a modern fully glass roof that never gets as dark as Ioniq9's hardcover. Another interesting omissions is the absence of a rear passenger display.
They are also not available as an option and having them is a huge advantage for families to keep their children occupied for longer drives. There is a universal holder for the tablet, but the built-in display looks much better. As for the space in the rear, our 1.95m (6'4") tall reviewer is fitted with the space left to spare behind his own driving position. The room for the head and knees is abundant, and thanks to the composition of the captain's chair, it will not be crushed by the middle passengers. The 2 cup holders on each side indicate that the rear passengers were not ignored even when it comes to amenities.
The Hyundai Ioniq9 cargo area remains practical across a variety of seat configurations, offering a high degree of versatility for different needs. However, the luggage capacity is limited to 338l, as all seats are used. It is enough for everyday errands and short trips, but this figure means that a fully occupied long-distance journey requires careful packing. Hyundai Ioniq9 Performance has won its title mainly through linear acceleration, although it carries the designation of "performance". Beyond that, the driving character is firmly focused on the comfort of light steering, a subtle ride and predictable handling. This approach is perfectly suitable for cars.
The considerable size and mass of the Hyundai Ioniq9 ensures a strong sense of stability in a wide range of conditions, helping the occupants feel safe and well protected. Regenerative braking allows for full one-pedal drive, but the brake strength is rather weak and the stop time is longer without the use of the brake pedal. On the other hand, this allows you to drive longer journeys outside of the highway more pleasantly, as you rarely touch the brakes and can't use navigation-based recovery to operate as smoothly as possible depending on the situation. When it comes to driver assistance systems, Hyundai's implementation can feel more intrusive than many rivals.

European regulations require some of these features to be enabled by default at the start of all journeys, but many manufacturers have frequently adjusted settings Hyundai Ioniq9 requires you to navigate through multiple submenus in the vehicle settings to disable or adjust these systems. Even functions that may be logically grouped can be placed in separate submenus, which can take longer than necessary to do what should be a simple process. The camera system is an important accessory that makes maneuvering this behemoth much easier. The image quality allows for great, great precision while parking or squeezing through tight spots.
As expected, the Hyundai Ioniq9 provides a very comfortable ride. It absorbs collisions, potholes and impressive potholes, rough road surfaces and keeps occupants fully insulated from blockages. The suspension is tuned for comfort, and the test model comes with the largest wheels, but it gives you a smooth and relaxed driving experience. If you have experienced modern cars in the past few years, you will find familiar multimedia. The home screen is configurable and includes 2 shortcuts per page. The drop-down menu can be accessed at any time and menu and is also configurable to allow quick access at any time Among the more interesting and useful features provided by Hyundai Ioniq9 are voice notes and passenger stories.
The former allows residents to record notes and ideas while on the move and play them later. Passenger stories are especially useful for vehicles of this size. This allows the seat to be folded and spread remotely, which is especially helpful when supporting children, elderly passengers or those who have difficulty operating the seat on their own. The performance trim of the Ioniq9 achieves impressive figures in terms of linear acceleration, taking into account the size and weight of the vehicle. The Ioniq9's braking performance is equally impressive given its size. The distance from 100km/h to 35m (114'10") for a complete stop signals tremendous capability in case of emergency.
True, the results increased as we repeated the tests, but that's not uncommon in large Suvs. Note that though our test car represents the least efficient version of Hyundai Ioniq9 with large tires, regular mirrors and high power, it is not challenging the efficiency leader in the electric vehicle market but it still travels a decent distance in electrification. When compared to similar sized competitors, Ioniq9 performance results are highly competitive and often exceed expectations for price points. The performance of the Hyundai Ioniq9 is one of the most complete electric Suvs we have tested. It provides space, comfort, technology, versatility and daily usability, with a few drawbacks and minor ones in it.
In segments where buyers expect very few compromises, Ioniq9 offers an exceptionally well rounded package. Its spacious cabin, generous equipment level and thoughtful features make it an outstanding companion for family life and long distance travel. Despite its impressive dimensions, it requires a little effort from the driver, while providing a sophisticated and comfortable experience for all occupants, and combined with a driving competitive price, it represents the excellent value of today's market. Ultimately, the only reason to overlook the Ioniq9 is a matter of personal preference, whether it involves styling preferences or brand loyalty, but the objective merit alone deserves to be at the top of the shortlist for anyone considering a full-size electric SUV.
