Kia EV3 (2027) Set for U.S. Launch With 320-Mile Range and 288-HP GT Version
When Kia announced its small EV3 crossover in 2024, the automaker said the EV3 would come to the United States this year, but all that is happening in the industry and the world Kia canceled the EV4 sedan just a month before it would have gone on sale, after all, small cars are already electric. Therefore, if Kia decided not to bring the EV3 to our shores, it would have been disappointing, but not surprising.Kia just revealed the US-spec EV3 at the New York auto Show and it seems like a great package. The EV3's great design hasn't changed at all in our market, and with all sorts of high-end features not normally found in cars of this size, the Li-Kia has a range of up to 320 miles more than initially estimated and can't charge as fast as its EV6 and EV9 siblings, but the standard NACS port still makes it pretty good. You can back it up faster. Oh, and we're getting a 288 horsepower GT model.

The EV3 rides on basically the same E-GMP platform as the other EVs in the Hyundai Motor Group, but not the 800-volt setup of fast charging, but the 400-volt version of the architecture. The base Light trim has a 220kwh battery pack that offers a Kia estimated range of 58.3 miles, but all the other trims will get you a 320kwh pack that will get you an 81.4 miLe range if you stick to front-wheel drive. Kia is not saying how much power a single-motor Ev3S has, but if you go for an optional all-wheel drive, its second motor brings the total to 261 hp. It also features sports tuned suspension and steering as well as virtual gearshift and active sound design like what you get with the EV6GT.

Kia is small, the battery takes 29 minutes on DC fast charging the big battery is 31 minutes. Both of the batteies are capable of plug and the charging function, as well as from car to car load and from car to home bi-directional charging capabilities. Kia's latest regenerative braking system is more smoother and works in reverse too. There's a Macpherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear setup, and Kia says its engineers added more sound deadening and took other measures to reduce NVH. Its drag coefficient of 0.275 is pretty good for a small, affordable car.Inside, it has a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch center touch screen, sandwiching a 5-inch climate control display. Offering new entertainment features, display themes that differ from properties such as National Geographic and Star Wars, wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto, AI voice assistant and over-the-air updates. Hopefully we get some of the fun interior colors offered in other countries.

The 60/40 split rear seat back can recline up to 39 degrees and has vents for rear seat passengers. The Kia has 26.1 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, there are several cubes more than the EV6, and when you fold them up you get 56.5 cubic feet and the EV3 also has a frunk that can hold something worth 0.9 cubic feet, and the back has two height positions and a storage compartment on the luggage floor. The power tailgate is optional and if it's something you're worried about, you can set the height and speed of the opening in the infotainment system.All EV3S come with 8 airbags and a driver assist system, including an automatic emergency brake with a junction turning alert. Highway Driving assistance , remote smart park, reverse collision avoidance and blind spot cameras are among other available safety features.

The ev3 also has features such as a heated and ventilated front seat, a 360 degree camera system, a 12-inch head-up display, a Kia digital key 2.0, a wireless charging pad, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and MyQ Connected Garage. An intuitive garage door management system that gives you peace of mind by answering the question " Did I close my garage door?'It's not yet known how much the EV3 will cost when it launches in late 2026, but 2 years ago Kia said it would start at about $30,000. Especially given the base price of the Chevy Bolt and Nissan Leaf, you have to imagine that it is still so. That car starts at just over 40,000, but the EV3's entry-level trim has a smaller battery, and in other countries the EV3 undercuts the Niro at least several times.
