Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 & N70: Complete Guide to Design, Interior, Features and Innovation

Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 & N70: Complete Guide to Design, Interior, Features and Innovation

Today we had the opportunity to become one of the first to contact the vehicle of Xiaomi's new line-up, called SkyNomad. The first two models of the series offer Skynomad N70, a luxury medium-sized SUV with five seats, and similar appearance styling SkyNomad N90, 2-2-3 The SkyNomad series is based on the experience with Xiaomi's su7 and YU7 and the knowledge gained from the first models. Some early mistakes have been corrected, but the cabin with HyperOS should allow customers to smoothly control the vehicle from the comfort of their home. We will focus mainly on the 5.29m Xiaomi SkyNomad N90, which will be the flagship of the brand.

It is a box-type three-row SUV that redefines luxury SUVs with a 2-2-3 lineup, allowing for a second row captain chair and a third row seat. This should suit not only the executive manager, but also the driver-driven experience for large families. Xiaomi's new Kunlun platform allows a perfectly flat floor above the battery and a thinner wheel well to free up seating space at the rear. In addition, the seat can move freely on all axes, as well as the groundbreaking fully swivel chair (front and back), previously only available in minivans and buses This platform not only makes very efficient use of space, but also houses of the safest cabins in the industry with a safety level much higher than the industry standard. It's a good idea.

The exhibited model we tested was the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90Max, the best trim available on the model. All versions come with the same 1,705-liter fuel tank, which is promised to push the maximum range to 60 km without stopping for charging or refueling, and the same 1.5-liter gasoline range extender engine. The engine does not power the wheels, so all the power available comes solely from the electric motor. There are two battery variations available, the smaller one is a 52kWh LFP unit, and the larger one, like the test car with NMC chemistry and a capacity of 76kWh, the smaller battery can go 300km by itself, but the farthest n90 can go with pure electricity is the battery. It is 505 km away.

The figures cited are based on the very optimistic CLTC standard, but still impressive. As for performance, the top version reaches 5.9 km/h from a stop in 100 seconds. Outwardly, the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90Max is a bulky monolithic SUV that exudes a presence and reassures its features. Dragonfly headlights are a subtle hint of an otherwise brutal look. They smoothly transition to a large front panel that proudly says SkyNomad across the entire front end of the car. LiDAR sensors, like all other vehicles with that technology, stick out of the windscreen like acne on a teenager's forehead, but they're just on the side, the square structure is maximized inside space and the frameless wing mirror makes it less intimidating and blocky-style once again to add a sense of opportunity.

The wheel is a 21-inch multi-spoke unit, finished in aluminum with black accents, giving the n90 a stately look. From the rear, the SkyNomad N90 looks just as intimidating as the other side. The huge LED halo bar straddles the rear and bends downwards to create a distinctive look reminiscent of the SU7 and YU7 models, yet completely different. The cabin is where Xiaomi is most committed to, and the SkyNomad N90 offers an unparalleled level of comfort and luxury, especially in terms of its class and price. Nearly every material you touch is amazing and only a few slight oversights keep it from the best in the business. Soft padding is used to ensure maximum comfort internal for 95% of the contact surface.

Xiaomi is not only targeting the traditional full-size Suv, but also wants to turn the interior of the SkyNomad N90 into a living room with wheels. This further demonstrates how advanced Xiaomi's mindset is and is eager to redefine an industry that does not want to compete but just entered. The steering wheel is flattened for easy access, but the N90 will inevitably take a toll on the driving experience as it will be a bit harder to steer. Behind it is a gauge cluster display, which is not spectacular, but it works pretty well and without adding unnecessary play, the dodd dashboard is covered with hidden vents, controlled by subtle units on every side, and not distracting, but the overall interior display.

The design is well completed. There are also some exposed rivets that are left deliberately to add a touch of durability. The head-up display makes it very practical and virtually eliminates the need to see gauge cluster displays Large visibility and many optional readouts The 16.1-inch 3K center display, is a huge unit that controls most of the vehicle's functions, including swivel seats, which is the biggest party trick of the n90. Below the center screen is a row of drawers, which is suitable for carrying small objects around or hiding them out of sight. It looks more like a bedside cabinet, than traditional car accessories.

The center console can be moved forward or backward with the push of a button, which allows more space or more in each of the first rows above it is a cup holder and a wireless charging port, under which a large storage space is hidden. The sunroof is divided into 2 parts, the front part of which can be opened, and the rear part is illuminated to increase the atmosphere in the cabin. The door sill is huge, but nothing unusual or special is happening there. There are classic buttons for window and door release. The impressive part is that once the door opening button is pressed, the door closes or opens automatically, it features very few cars offering and is the staple of ultimate luxury.

Move on to the best part of the interior, which is definitely a seat. Each seat in the front 2 rows is a comfortable sofa that can be adjusted in multiple positions including facing forward or backward and turning into a leading lounge bed. These seats also offer heating, cooling, and massage features for extra comfortable travel. Of course, the turning function is only accessible when the car is not moving, so it is used more like a living room rather than a conventional vehicle. The rear passenger opens from the bottom of the center console and with access to a fairly large 1l refrigerator, which can be used even if the car is turned off at a fraction of the cost of consumption of 9kWh/day, the rear occupants also get a special phone-like panel to control all rear functions and a remote control to use for the drop-down screen.

The screen is a 21.4-inch unit that falls from the roof and projects images in 3K resolution. It can be used for games, videos, or work and is a great addition for both businessmen and kids. Adding a Xiaomi TV to the unit will make it more usable than the vehicle's traditional TV screen, which will help users fill the gap. The third row is a bench with space for three people to sit on. The middle seat sacrifices side space, but it should be expected in most cars, and the quick pass-through practicality between rows is a much more appreciated feature. Thanks to the large handrails mounted on the floor of the SkyNomad N90, the possibilities of placement are endless. All seats can be moved in each direction, allowing an easy customization process based on your specific needs.

Thanks to the boxy design on the outside and the luxurious size of almost 5.3m, the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 storage is no problem even with all the seats up. In this configuration, you should be able to carry 7 carry-on suitcases or about 577l. That is, thanks to the movable 3rd and 2nd rows, you can easily increase the space by sacrificing the interior room or completely folding the seat. This should exceed a maximum of 1,800l. Under the main compartment there is also some storage space to hide small objects that you rarely use.We also need to take a closer look at the smaller Xiaomi SkyNomad N70, again in the Max version.

The appearance of the 2 vehicles is very similar, and the front end has the same appearance. The N70 is also powered by the same engine (electricity and gasoline) and provides the same battery size. The main difference between these 2 is the size. The Skynomad N70 is in the range of less than 90m, which is significantly less than the n5. It should ensure better handling and tighter cornering at the expense of practicality, which often comes with added space. This makes the n70's side profile look more sporty and more muscular, while the N90 has a more imposing stance. The N70 has a much shorter rear wheel overhang that should lead to improved off-road performance, not to mention a better appearance.

However, Xiaomi wants the 2 models to appeal to different customers but offer more or less the same status, so these multiple similarities mean that the N70 should be seen as the same product aimed at customers with different needs, not as a lesser proposal. Xiaomi continues to expand at a staggering rate in the automotive world. The new SkyNomad models N90 and N70 are aimed at buyers who want an experience that enhances their own life, not more than a large SUV. The SkyNomad line-up is not only excellent connectivity with external equipment, but also not a conventional vehicle, which can turn into a lounge area when stationary, providing passengers with unparalleled practicality.
