2027 BMW 7 Series Makeover Delivers Bigger Grilles, Sleeker Lines, And More Presence

For the face (and overall design) of the G70 generation BMW 7 series revealed in 2022, it had even stronger feelings than the 2001 E65. Its appearance is controversial, sure, it's still the most technical advance 7, but the G70's polarized attribute was a good thing: Basically for the first time since the Bangle-era car came out of production, this generation 7 series is seeing an increase in sales in the United States, partly helped by the electric i7 model. Although it was Stockholm Syndrome'd that BMW customers prefer the recent larger grille and more bizarre styles, the current 7th Generation 7 series is actually zooming into the future with the new Neue Klasse platform.

However, BMW has already so far produced the IX3 crossover and i3 sedan. Some of the carmaker's models, which are not yet ready for the next generation of redesign, have been replaced with new styles from Neue Klasse cars while they are not using the Neue Klasse platform. The first of the aforementioned face lifts to be revealed is the 7 series. BMW has given a total overhaul to the front end, and it still has split headlights and a huge kidney grille, but it seems I look badass, but more importantly, the 2027 7 series has a redesigned interior with BMW's new Panoramic iDrive and the I7 EV has a line-up. BMW says this is the most extensive model update ever made.

This is the same thing Mercedes-Benz said about the new face lifted S-class, the biggest competitor of the 7 series. Right, let's start with the front end. The kidney of the 7 Series is now shaped like an old BMW grille, with higher, narrower and more subtle horizontal vane. The chrome surround of the kidneys still fills the center, but fortunately the ambient lighting surrounding the kidneys has now completely separated a major improvement over the blank of the outgoing model. The upper LED running lights are thinner and connected to the grille surround, and the lower headlights are now smaller and more vertically oriented and, therefore, those eyebrow lights that stand out at a glance are available with 12 diamond-cut crystal glass segments per light, sun shine and backlit by LEDs.

The front bumper is a more prominent hood bulge that I think looks pretty cool when you spill out of the normal styling or give it a blockier look with a larger intake and headlight perimeter. It's all very robo cop, but it's definitely cleaner and more cohesive. Cameras, radar sensors and washer nozzles are all hidden in the kidneys. In addition to the welcome animation, you can get a ritual light carpet that uses 194,000 pixels integrated in the door sill to project animated graphics on the ground. From the front fender to the rear quarter panel, the body surface and greenhouse of the 7 series are exactly the same as before, except for the fine-tuned side skirt. Well, there's also a new side mirror and a redesigned recessed door handle, but would you have noticed if I hadn't said anything?

However, the rear end has undergone a major change. The slimmer taillights extend almost to the center of the trunk with a new twin-line design incorporating chrome strips and smoked glass. Hidden in the black part of the light are the backup camera, its washer nozzle and the trunk lock button. The design of the rear bumper is also new and better. BMW already offered two-tone paint to the g70 7 series, both colors were the same finish, but still too boring. The new individual double-finish paint combines matte and metallic paint with a "striking transition point" that meets, and a hand-painted coach line between them.

Instead of using gauge clusters, Neue Classe's car is a Panoramic iDrive running BMW's operating system X, which uses a projected panoramic vision display spread across the base of the windshield and a 17.9 inch central touchscreen with a rhombus "free-cut" design. BMW has given the 7 Series a whole new dashboard that gets both of these items, and as standard it has we've seen the passenger display for this new system, the first iteration of the 14.6-inch unit that also has a free-cut design. Other new design features include a funky steering wheel with 12 and 6 spokes (there are a total of 5 different designs), a reworked center console with a crystal shifter, and a crystal unit for seat adjustment that gives you more organized control. 

This includes a new door panel equipped with a new door panel. BMW did not change much about the rear seats of the 7 series, but it did not have to change much. The optional 31.3-inch 8K theater screen, which flips down from the ceiling, has a camera so you can make zoom calls and an HDMI port to easily plug in your computer or game console. In addition, the optional 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system has Dolby Atmos and surround speakers built into the headrest, and the Riad front seat comes standard with ventilation and 9 massage settings that the rear seat can also get, but actually has an integrated leg rest for the right rear passenger. 

You'll want an executive lounge package that adds a heated armrest and other specifics. There are tons of different ambient lighting effects. The strip, which runs across the width of the dashboard, "illuminates with a delicate alabaster structure in sunlight, but produces a moderately dynamic light effect in the dark," its color and brightness correspond to the time of day. The front seat back has a new integrated sconce-like light, and the rear door speaker cover is illuminated from the inside, allowing you to get a panoramic sky lounge roof with more than 40 LEDs embedded in the glass. Vegan upholstery is standard, but you can get plenty of leather options in different color schemes. There are also some new wood trim options.

At launch, the 7 series will use a 740 hp turbocharged inline 6 and will be available either in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The 740e xDrive model, a plug-in hybrid, will come in at 483 horsepower and 516 lb-feet of torque in early 2027, and BMW says the M-performance model with the V8 will arrive down the line. It could be a replacement for the current V8-powered 760i. The facelift is about BMW's 6th generation electric i7 with electric drive technology. Its battery pack uses a Neue Klasse cylindrical cell design that increases the volumetric energy density by 20%. The external dimensions are the same, but the usable capacity increases by more than 10% to 112.5kWh, and BMW estimates an epa range of more than 7 miles, which is about 40 miles more than the current i350. 

With the NACS charging port installed, the DC fast charging capability of the i7 has increased from 195kW to 250kW, so it now takes 10 minutes to go from 80% to 28%. BMW has also improved regenerative braking, so the i7 can now stop completely with one-pedal drive and has an adaptive recovery setting that automatically adjusts the level of regen based on the vehicle, traffic lights, route guidance and other data around you. The base I7 50xDrive has 449hp and 487lb-ft, reaching 5.3 mph in 60 seconds, but if that's not enough, the i7 60xDrive has 536hp and 549lb-ft, which is 4.6 seconds 0-60 hours. The automatic door has a new sensor and smooth operation, there is a new digital rear view mirror, you can get a 3D head-up display. 

The AI virtual assistant is probably much better and can do a variety of new things.There are many more entertainment apps.The digital key has new features, and BMW is equipped with more sound denning solutions and an improved adaptive chassis control suspension system available with a 48-volt active anti-roll bar.There are also a lot of enhancements for the driver assist system, although BMW has discontinued its Level 2 system in favor of a better level 3 setup. Call the latest safety systems BMW Symbiotic Drives, because they are designed to work unobtrusively in the background, providing a safe experience that offers the maximum benefits, rather than the highest level of automation possible in every situation. 

For example, the driver's acceleration, braking, or steering does not disable the highway assist system. The car uses eye tracking, looking at the driver's input to determine if the driver is paying attention, and intervenes only if it feels distracted (or worse). According to BMW, the 2027 7 series will begin production on May 7 this year and delivery in the US will begin soon. The 740 starts at destination $101,350, including the destination, and will be only $500 more than before the facelift. The i7, on the other hand, costs $550 for a 50xDrive ($107,550 more than the current rear drive 500) and 60xDrive for $126,250.
