It took a long time for Chevrolet to get the 2025 Blazer EV SS out the door. I'm sure you remember all of the teething problems the regular Blazer EV dealt with when it first went on sale, and that means the Blazer EV SS was the hero car of the movie "Barbie", which premiered almost 2 years ago, but now it's just beginning to roll off the assembly line. What Chevrolet has done here is to create a cohesive, medium-sized crossover EV, which is the cheapest way to get over 600 horsepower in a new car. It's not a track Star by any means, but it has more than enough space and power to rocket your whole family from 0 to 60 faster than you can finish this sentence. The real difference between the Blazer EV SS and the regular Blazer EV is its powertrain.
Here you can find a permanent magnetic drive motor mounted back and forth, which draws power from a sizeably 102kWh battery pack with two-way charging. This system gives out more than enough 615 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. That's enough to make this 5,730-pound family crossover rocket from 0 to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds in WOW (Wide Open Watts) mode. For those who keep the score at home, it's the fastest SS model Chevrolet has ever produced and, as the numbers suggest, it's all a bit of a straight line. When you deplete the 303-mile EPA estimated range, changing it to a backup isn't much of a problem. According to Chevy, the Blazer EV SS can charge up to 190kW with a DC fast charger.
The company doesn't quote 10-80% charging time, but it says that one of these chargers can add a range of up to 1 mile in just 10 minutes with 79. It doesn't exactly lead the industry, but it will certainly get the job done for most people. The difference between the Ev SS and the regular Blazer EV is not just the powertrain. The engineers also reinforced the car's anti-roll bars and springs by 60% and 30% respectively. Nevertheless, it will not feel uncomfortable on the road. Chevy also tells me that it gave the Blazer EV SS a faster steering ratio, but I could do it with an even faster rack. The Blazer EV SS features a Brembo front brake with a 15.3-inch disc and six piston calipers, meatier 275/40R22 tires and some fun interior color and texture options.
The Bow Tie offers some really fun colors like Habanero Orange, Riptide Blue, Radiant Red Tint Coat, as well as some boring colors like black, sterling gray metallic, iridescent pearl tricot. Chevy is clearly trying to give EV SS owners more than just a powerful drivetrain in this package. These efforts are mainly visible through the back of the wheel. I was given the opportunity to drive the Blazer EV SS both on the track and on the open road, and it's much better than anywhere else. To be fair, Chevy knows this. Before getting on track at the newly built Tentens Motor Club in Concord, North Carolina, PR people told me that this car is not a truck monster, in their words, it is directed to being a "Canyon Carving Daily driver", and in various scenarios this car will be a good driver. After driving more than 100 miles, I would say they are almost right.

In a straight line, the car is great. It has all of the decapitated acceleration in WOW mode you'd expect from an electric car with over 600 horsepower, and I've been able to hit or match Chevy's claimed 0-to-60 hours on every single run I took. The problem really only starts when you want to go left or right, Blazer EV SS is rather something you wouldn't have done. The GM engineers aren't all-out lunatics, so the EV SS is set to push through the corners it gets all sorts of oversteer. Another cornering problem lies in the fact that the front seats are very flat.1 I have a beautiful, juicy ass and a wide waist, but I have noticed that I always need to fix my knees to the door and the center console to hold the steering wheel tightly or leave it planted. The seats are much more suitable for cruising down the highway or running errands around town.
At the very least, the optional summer tires will let you know well in advance that they are going to give way and start skidding. Once you get that understeer under control, your best move will be to set the wheel and plant your right foot and hang on. You will rocket out of the corner much faster than you had ever expected. If you remove the Blazer EV SS from the truck and take it out on an open road, things will be much better. Here everything makes more sense: wide seats, slow steering ratio, all drive modes and a high-quality level 2 driver assist system. I think the Blazer EV SS is a long one where you can really feel the excellent grip and stability given to you by the car's tires and suspension It also gives you much more chance to use that party trick, those 615 hp available in the moment.
Chevrolet did a really good job of making its power progressive, too. It comes very smoothly unless you mat it from a dead stop, you don't really get any sort of head-snapping sensation. It's really impressive motor control. This car is also going to be a really good long-range cruiser as long as the infrastructure is retained. It's ridiculously good at isolating you from the outside world when you're in normal mode. All of the fake engine noise goes away and you leave a very low noise floor thanks to sound silencing that keeps both road and wind noise out of the cabin, from which you activate standard super cruising and make this thing glide just down the highway. Like all the other GM products it contains, Super Cruise is second to none when it comes to the L2ADAS system.

No matter what the situation, there are several options to choose from including Normal, Sport, snow/ice and Z modes, a custom mode that allows you to adjust the car the way you want it. You can also choose the level of regenerative braking you want, from fully off to full one-pedal drive. Like the Bolt EV, the Chevy offers the driver a small, cheesy-looking plastic paddle on the left side of the steering wheel, allowing them to brake whenever they want. The interior of the Blazer EV SS is comparable to the course if you've ever used other current GM products. It's a real mixed bag of materials in some places it has a genuinely thoughtful and nice use of leather, suede and metal, but the common touch points like lower door cards and gear tunnels and cup holder areas or this have also been a lot of hard plastic, which costs a lot of money.
There's also a window switch (the blazer only has a self-driving seat) and some less nice-feeling switchgear like 2 stems behind the steering wheel. I think I can understand how this happened. That is, you are not going to build the cheapest 600 horsepower car in America without cutting money somewhere. Still, the overall design of the interior is at least somewhat interesting, although there are some problems with the shape of the driver-centric cockpit. It's very similar to what you'll find on a standard Blazer EV with an 11-inch digital gauge cluster, a 17.7-inch infotainment display (not powered by Apple CarPlay or Android Auto) and massive vents.
If you're a passenger, the volume button is also quite far away from you. In fact, it is not very convenient for passengers, because the entire center display is tilted too far towards the driver. This is fine with an all-out performance car, but annoying as hell with a family crossover. You'll get wireless charging pads as standard, a plethora of cup holders and ample seating room for five full-size adults. I had more than enough room behind my driving position in the second row to fit comfortably. The trunk is also large enough, which is good because the Blazer EV SS has no punctures. Plus, there are some additional flares through the two interior color packages: black/medium ash gray, which also gives some very cool orange accents, or adrenaline red, which is somehow brighter than you might imagine.
At least the interior felt like it was screwed together relatively well, which is a real big deal if you look back on what the early blazer Ev was like. When you go to buy the Chevy Blazer EV SS, there aren't many options to choose from. Crossovers start at $662,095, including destinations. Apart from a couple of paint colors that run between paint $495 and $9 995, it's hard to make Blazer EV SS the mark 70k mark even if you add some charging accessories, black $2,950 black wheels (you should skip), $3395 performance lots of accessories. No matter how you slice it, if it's like you're crazy, the cheapest price to get a brand new car with 600 horsepower or more is in line with some of the competition, like the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT ($55,185), which has reduced power, slowed to 60mph, and a Humvee. The die Ioniq5N (6 67,675) is faster and more powerful than the blazer, but just one.
