The mini is an icon of the car, and although there is no roaster that is the widest in the industry, each model is immediately recognizable. The version we got for review is the Mini Countryman SE ALL313 with a JCW package that outputs 494hp and 4NM. Although a promising number for sure, the model is growing in size and weight as well. The JCW package adds a number of aggressive aero elements and a dash of sportiness to the interior. The mini has gone for a revolution over design and evolution, with the new model hardly recognising its signature line. Angular styling cues and large size mean the mini may not be the first brand on your mind when you look at the car. Part of the reason is that the countryman shares the platform with the BMW X1.
At the front there is a huge mini grille that is still recognizable, and in the electric version it serves only aesthetic purposes, giving the car a recognizable happy-looking face. The lights are no longer rounded the angular LEDs can project 3 different lighting styles according to the owner's preference. It adds an additional personalization touch that can be found in the latest models of Mini. The profile of the new countryman can hardly be identified as a mini, since it is a very common SUV appearance. In some of the available dark colors, the countryman easily mixes with traffic and is not noticeable, which is unusual in mini.
Our test examples included a nice-looking upgraded 20-inch wheel, the Pirelli winter tires that came with the countryman equipped with a JCW package that adds many visual improvements and aggressive elements are a breath of fresh air compared to the meager Maxxis rubber that we had when testing the Mini Cooper SE . When you open the door at night, a huge mini logo is projected onto the ground, adding a little visual sense. Taillights and lettering add a little style to the otherwise very common and boring design, where a flat surface dominates. Just like the front, the taillights can change their appearance according to the preferences of the driver.
The countryman SE has a vibrant interior with splash colors everywhere, creating a wonderful setting for drivers and passengers. Most of the materials seem to be of high quality and are well put together. Sadly, its premium perception makes a bunch of them feel very rough when you run your fingers under them, but the build quality is certainly great because there are no creaks or rattles at all. The sporty seats we tested feature thick reinforcement to hold you comfortably. The steering wheel is the same chunky as all BMW models, it is easy to operate, but the material is inferior and is not suitable for vehicles with premium ambitions.

Behind the steering wheel has a "boost paddle" that instantly unleashes full power for 10 seconds, allowing you to quickly overtake without activating the sports mode. Like many modern vehicles, the gauge cluster is integrated not behind the steering wheel, but on a multimedia display. If you want, you can get a head-up display that isn't actually projected onto the window, but instead uses another piece of glass that sticks out of the dashboard. This is due to an almost upright windshield, but it is also a much cheaper solution to implement. Its readout varies depending on your drive mode and is clearly visible in very bright lighting.
The main display is the centerpiece of the entire interior. It is a huge circle in the middle of the dashboard, protruding prominently. Here you control almost all the features of the mini, but unfortunately it is slow to respond and leaves a lot of unused space for the oval. Your Mini Cooper SE has the option to equip the Harman/Kardon sound system, which provides a great audio experience and is very well integrated into the interior design. The back seat is the biggest improvement compared to previous compatriots. Since the model has grown significantly, it also has a rear, allowing passengers in the 2nd row to enjoy a more comfortable ride. Even our 1.95m (6'4") tall reviewers can afford it.
The seat itself allows you to adjust to multiple positions and decide between the upright seat position or the more inclined one. On the back side, there are not many amenities at the back. There are 2 USB-C ports, 2 vents, and armrests with cup holders, and that's about it. Interestingly, the mini-countryman can be equipped with a traction hitch, which can tow a braking load of up to 1,200 kg. This is a huge advantage, especially for an electric car of that size, which adds a significant amount of practicality to the redneck and is a bigger bonus than its rivals. BMW's typical mini-countryman SE does not have a frank (front trunk), even though there is a lot of free space at the front.
Subjectively superior to competition is the de facto lack of body roll. The chassis seems to stay in place and does not tilt too much or twist in the corners. However, when braking or accelerating, the weight movement can not be compensated quickly enough by the suspension, and the countryman pushes it into one of the axles 1. 1. One of the things that remains a nod to the feel of the original mini go-kart is the excellent ste you get, especially when you push the countryman to the limit, you know exactly what's going on under the car and can easily tell you what to do to keep driving down the road you want. It will be. The 147mm ground clearance is not very large, but the small wheelbase allows the Countryman SE to handle lighter off-road.

The skid plates and durable bumpers allow you to go through rough terrain with confidence, but the ALL4AWD won't get you stuck Countryman SE can trust and enjoy taking off on paved roads rather than cars running down mountain roads. One of the gimmicks offered by Countryman is an off-road experience, which allows you to see how the vehicle tilts as you drive on rough terrain and see the exact coordinates. You get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but they're badly built-in and obviously a afterthought. Circular display is a problem, and rather than figuring out how to incorporate the system, mini-engineers have done very small in its middle for the phone system It is so bad it does not belong to any type of car.
The developers have no reason to work around this, since the previous generation integrated the same system much better into a similar circular display. The ride of the Mini Countryman SE is smooth but direct. It translates uneven road surfaces into interiors but not just smoothes them so you can feel and adjust accordingly. Large potholes feel harsh inside, as the weight of the countryside bounces several times after the impact, but the general feeling you get is a solid and comfortable ride. The cabin of the countryman SE is well insulated and does not transfer much from the surrounding world.
Wind noise is a major concern because the box-shaped design accounts for strong resistance and poor aerodynamics. But the brakes are really bad. A full stop from 100km/h takes a whopping 40m (131'3"), but this is a terrible result. The test conditions were almost optimal, and even then the rural SE felt poor performance and unsafe. There was no initial bite on the brakes, and repeated testing several times further reduced the braking performance. The Countryman SE's design suggests that it is not a champion of efficiency, and combined with a small battery with a usable capacity of 64.6kWh, the prospect of the range was never surprising.
It's okay at all speeds, but far from the best. Even at low ambient temperatures, the mini-countryman easily reached a peak 130 kW charging power. This power is not the largest in the segment, and some rivals do better, but with smaller batteries, full charging still doesn't take much time to complete. The Mini Countryman SE needs a huge number of potential customers, because the small Suv is the best ever in terms of sales and available models. Despite the increase in size, the mini Countryman SE remains a little smaller than its main competitors. We don't know if the brand loyalists will like it very much, but some of them appreciate the extra comfort as they get older.
The Mini Countryman SE ALL4 is a great overall vehicle that has sadly lost its mini DNA. The car itself is a great daily companion that can tackle almost every challenge thrown at it, but it's just that the X-factor Mini is so famous and without any silly gimmicks or weird quirks, and the redneck feels mature in adulthood. It's not a bad quality in itself, but this is not what we expect to get from the brand. The driving experience is predictable and on the more sporty side, but still remains civilized enough for daily activities. The interior is well built, despite the fact that it is mainly made of inexpensive materials, creating a mixed feeling in the passengers. The increase in the size of the countryman is justified by a spacious interior, comfortable for passengers of all sizes. When faced with the dilemma of choosing a mini Countryman SE ALL4 or some of its competitors, all rivals in the segment almost the same Mini shines with a distinctive appearance and flashy interior, but when it comes to the driving experience, it has lost its competitiveness.
