2026 Porsche Cayenne Electric Review: Bold Design, Luxurious Interior, and Next-Generation Technology

2026 Porsche Cayenne Electric Review: Bold Design, Luxurious Interior, and Next-Generation Technology
Whenever a new Porsche model is revealed, people's jaws drop. It's possible that Cayenne once changed our view on Suvs and is trying to do it again. This model has historically been offered almost exclusively with a high-power and glorious Rumble V8 engine. At the time, it seems to be numbered as Porsche announced the lineup of fully electric Cayenne. Variants of ICE continue to be sold with it, but we don't know if another gasoline generation will be launched. We can see the new Porsche Cayenne Electric directly and we can share some first-hand impressions. The model was a base version (albeit with a rich specification), but a more powerful turbo version will also be available to order.

This model is larger and more powerful than before, but also significantly increases the weight. All versions come AWD standard and this base version delivers 4.8 hp and 835Nm, resulting in acceleration to 100 km/h in just 442 seconds. These numbers sound great, but the initial value tag of €109,900 is important, and you can quickly end up on the wrong side of €150,000 just by adding some extras. Porsche refrained from major design changes. Cayenne Electric looks like an innovative new model rather than a continuation of the current ice version. The real change is that everything is hidden under a new surface.

When viewed from the front, the cooling flap at the bottom of the bumper immediately stands out and opens and closes according to the needs of the vehicle. They first appeared in the current 911GTS, a facelift of the 992.2 generation. Now they are even more prominent in the Cayenne and occupy a larger part of the front. The lights are modern and further deviate from the original Porsche round design. They have a simple housing and a small LED strip to illuminate the way ahead. The entire front end of the Cayenne has been smoothed to reduce drag, which sadly makes it less recognizable as a Porsche from the outside.

The side profile carries the look of a typical Porsche SUV with low narrow windows, bulky wheel arches sticking out and an unprecedented slightly sloping roofline for better looks and aerodynamics. There's not a lot of attention on the sides, but the wheels definitely stand out. The show unit has 315/35/R22 wheels and tires in the back and 275/40/r22 in the front, which also looks huge by today's standards. The design is simple and elegant, but lacks depth, as extra complications can worsen aerodynamics. The charging port opens electronically and hides the panel door inside the body of the car. Cayenne Electric supports up to 400kW of DC charging, so charging at 10-80% will only take 16 minutes under ideal conditions.

Up to 22kW of type 2 household chargers are also supported, which takes nearly 6 hours to fully charge. The rear end of the new Cayenne seems to be quite controversial among Porsche enthusiasts, and we understand why. There's not much detail in the back, and Cayenne doesn't look more exotic than that and blends a lot into the traffic that many customers don't want. Porsche seems to want to clarify the image of a typical Cayenne buyer, show it off and attract more sophisticated customers in the electric version. This rear does not contain Porsche features or even a large logo, has some fake vents and fake diffusers, all explaining a somewhat generic look.

We have a lot to offer. As we mentioned, the biggest change is below the surface. The interior of the electric Cayenne has been completely reworked, with the exception of the steering wheel, which has been taken over from other models. Behind the wheel is an ice scanner sensor, which helps detect the driver's drowsiness. It looks bad and sticks out, but the idea behind it is noble. The electric Cayenne Gauge cluster display is completely digital and has touchscreen controls on each end. The gear lever follows the same principle, but on the right side. These two elements aside, the overall quality of the interior is not only nice and soft leather, which is used practically everywhere, but also squeaky and unnecessary movement.

The seats are comfortable but supportive. The pink color used in the interior emphasizes the features of the design, but more subtle colors will also be available. In the center of the dashboard is a huge curved display, which is the highlight of the front row. It is a masterpiece of technology and we get back to it in a little bit. Under the display there are some quick temperature setting buttons that have great feedback again when used, but for extended A/C control, you need to open the menu on the screen. What is very clever about the usage of this curved display is the leather mat in front of it to rest your hands when using the touch screen.

This allows you to make more accurate gesture input, which is especially beneficial while driving, but can make your life easier while still. Beneath the display area is a deep pocket that can be used for hidden storage. It is significantly deeper than the ICE model and not only fits both large cups and bottles, but can also fit larger objects simply when the cup holder is removed. You'll also get a ventilated wireless charger for your phone and if you don't want to see that conundrum in your pocket, simply slide the armrest forward and leave an elegant console. The passenger seat gets its own display. It has almost the same functionality as the center, but can be used by passengers without distracting the driver.

Giving preference to video playback is long, but narrow. The rear seat is as spacious as a regular Cayenne. Based on the choice of equipment they are electrically adjustable and can come with seat heating and ventilation. Rear passengers also get rear sunshades and air conditioning controls for added luxury. Cayenne Electric is also offered with electrochromic roof opening and tilting Cayenne Electric's trunk is huge and provides 781l of storage. Fold the rear seats and their number will jump up to 1,588 liters, allowing you to transport all kinds of bulky items. Under the floor of the main trunk there are deep pockets, which increase practicality. In the left corner of the trunk there are buttons for controlling the front seats and raising or lowering them without moving around the car.

You can also lower the suspension for easier loading of heavy items. In the same vicinity there is a button for folding the traction hitch. A great practical addition thanks to the electric powertrain, you can store items in front, like the Porsche 911 frunk (by volume of 90 l it is among the larger frunks of the companies too. Since this Cayenne Electric is a pre-production model, some of its features did not work properly or were not active at all, so it only covers what was working at the time. The gauge cluster was configured to display specific reads and could not be modified. As long as we acknowledge the safety system, we can find a quick button to disable signal recognition beeps, in the upper left corner, which may be annoying or even dangerous in some situations and thus disable them relatively easily, and for others, we have a video like below. You can adjust various settings in different drive modes to suit your driving style and automatically adjust the speed from the inside without needing to reach the activated speed.

Ambient lighting is a big thing on the new Cayenne Electric, but unfortunately we can completely change its mode to experience it. Both the center display and the passenger unit allow for the same commands and you get a plethora of functions and information to be displayed. It seems that there is a lack of breakthrough technology and unnecessary gimmicks. Instead, you get a usable and simple infotainment with great qualities overall. Once Porsche starts production, you can't wait to get a fully functional model, but so far, you can look at the potential of Cayenne Electric and expect the best performance on the market!
